That’s exactly why Tchankaya cane made such a strong impression on me.
From the last kilogram I ordered, an impressive 95% of the cane produced good reeds. That’s an exceptionally high success rate, which allows me to offer my clients top-level products without compromise.
While processing the entire batch, only 4–6 pieces per 100 had to be rejected due to lack of straightness. That’s a very good ratio, reflecting careful selection and excellent sorting quality – significantly better than what I’ve experienced with many other well-known cane suppliers.
I also appreciated that the tubes were very evenly cut – similar lengths save time and make the work much more efficient. The ordered diameter of 10–10.5 mm was present in nearly all the tubes.
The surface of the cane was clean, with minimal grey spots. Even the tubes that had slight discoloration still produced well-sounding reeds after processing – proving that the material has strong acoustic qualities.
What I valued most was the medium hardness of the cane – perfect for making reeds that are stable but not too stiff, with just the right balance between resistance and flexibility.
Thanks to this cane, I was able to prepare high-quality reeds ready for professional performance – which, as a reed maker with international clients, is my top priority.
I will definitely be ordering more cane from Tchankaya as soon as it becomes available again. In my professional opinion, this material ranks among the best on the market, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to any serious oboist or reed maker.

I use the Tchankaya tube cane to make reeds. Not only does it produce a very rich sound, but it also produces a wider sound and a warmer sound if you assume that you have the same strength, density, shape, thickness as the cane of other companies, and the whole instrument is really overwhelming. You can also play it with your lips very comfortable. Finally, the most advantage is that it generally play well with all brands of bassoons.
